A female charged with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a voicemail message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has consistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned phone records and data retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most covered missing child cases and is still unsolved.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

Another voicemail, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I understand I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I am she? What happens next? Is that not significant for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I have a life here in Poland, I just want to understand," the message continued.

The panel was told that through emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, sent early photographs to her phone in a effort to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and asserted to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with law enforcement who compiled the information, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with family friends of the McCanns, according to the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, the father responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "a wrong number."

That day Ms Wandelt recorded a message on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."

Court proceedings

The court heard the co-defendant developed a relationship online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in December 2024.

Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be considered genuine in the months preceding the trip to Rothley, Leicestershire, in that winter.

The court heard communications between the two accused, in last November, considering trying to acquire Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from utensils at a restaurant.

"We must take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the appearance to their house, Mrs Spragg dispatched a text which stated: "We find ourselves positioned outside the McCanns' home with our headlights off similar to private investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."

The proceedings continues.
