Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Versus the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team reached their first Fall Classic since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Down 3-1, the star outfielder smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 triumph in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming championship.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."
Springer has now connected for 23 playoff homers, ranking him third in history after Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation other than him with his October magic," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their performance in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we ended up on the losing end of the series," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
