Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
