Supporters Call for Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who breached a barricade and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "released after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was due to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Record of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account features clips of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more message on Instagram.
Some fans also faulted security officers at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had gathered in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it started.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two very different characters.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received 10 Academy Award nods, winning several for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
