The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC
The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last series concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."

The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
